Garbage Disposal Repair
Is your garbage disposal jammed? First, switch off the unit. Insert a dowel or a wooden spoon handle into the disposal. Push against the flyweight and rotate the flywheel counter-clockwise. If your disposal came with an L or Z shaped wrench, read the owner’s manual on how to use that to clear the jam.
If this does not fix your problem, look under the sink for the reset switch on the disposal. You can also place an Allen wrench into the hole located in the middle bottom of the unit. Move your wrench back and forth to dislodge the matter in the blades.
If your disposal is filled with grease, grind some icecubes in the disposal. This will congeal the fat, allowing the disposal to grind and remove it. To keep your garbage disposal smelling fresh, grind lemon slices or fresh mint in the unit.
